Lidl is rolling out online grocery shopping across Dublin with delivery times starting at one hour.
The service will be in conjunction with the delivery app Buymie that operates in the grocery sector the way Deliveroo operates in the restaurant trade.
HOW IT WORKS
The Irish Times reports that the app will send your shopping list to a nearby 'picker'. That person will then go to the nearest Lidl to fetch the items on the list and deliver them.
Head of ecommerce at Lidl Ireland told the newspaper: 'Our decision to partner with a dedicated on-demand service provider allows us to continue to invest in our expanding network of stores and also provides a real differentiator in the online grocery delivery market'
The minimum order will be 20 euro. Delivery charges ranging from €6.99 for one hour to €3.99 for three hours. It's reported that shoppers will also pay a “platform fee” slice of the basket cost to Buymie, starting at 14.75%, declining to 9.75% above €120.
