Officials Announce 54 More Coronavirus-Related Deaths And 1,006 New Cases

Health officials have announced a further 54 coronavirus-related deaths and 1,006 new confirmed cases.

Health officials said 45 of the deaths happened this month with five in January and five still under investigation.

It takes the death toll in Ireland to 3794 and the national case total to 205,939.

The figures account for the denotification of twelve previously confirmed deaths and seven previously confirmed cases.

The 14-day rate of the virus in Ireland now stands at 312.1 cases per 100,000 people.

This morning, there were 1,032 COVID-19 patients in Irish hospitals with 173 people in intensive care with their symptoms.

Of the cases announced this evening, 516 are in Dublin with 63 in Cork, 46 in Galway, 43 in Meath, 36 in Louth and the rest spread across all other counties.

Monaghan still has the highest 14-day rate in the country at 623.9 cases per 100,000 people.

Five other counties have 14-day rates higher than 400.

The seven-day incidence of the virus in Ireland now stands at 138.6 while the five-day moving average is 848.

By Sunday, 153,654 people had received their first vaccine dose and 86,833 people were fully vaccinated.

Of the 121,402 tests carried out in the past week, 5.8% came back positive.
