Government officials will meet the hospitality sector today about the lack of compliance with Covid rules.
The Department of the Taoiseach sought the meeting on Friday, after new ESRI data was released.
It found 34 per cent of customers in restaurants are not having their Covid certs checked. The figure is 37 per cent in pubs.
But Adrian Cummins, from the Restaurants Association, disputes that;
"Our evidence on the ground, on the face to face individual fronted businesses that we know and we have gone in to, the compliance is far higher than what the ESRI is saying."
He says the inspectors are the people that will give the exact results.
Cases
It comes as the World Health Organisation says the 'substantial' rise in Covid cases in Ireland over the past week, is a cause of concern.
At least 3,000 cases have been reported every day for the past week.
The five-day moving average now stands at 3,440, after rising by 852 in the space of seven days.
