The RNLI has helped double the number of people this year as it did in 2019.
It is partially due to a significant rise in swimmers taking to the sea since March.
In the past week eight separate water incidents have taken place in the Dublin Wicklow area alone with a number of other issues being reported across the country.
The Irish Coast Guard and the RNLI have been forced to re-issue advice for people who are going sea swimming.
They want to highlight the dangers in particular to those who are new to the sport.
Cox of Dún Laoghaire RNLI Mark McGibney says people need to be aware of their surroundings before getting in.
Mark McGibney from @RNLIDunLaoghair tells me they have dealt with double the number of incidents this year compared to 2019.
The advice for sea swimmers is “If in doubt, don’t go out”. pic.twitter.com/GydlQc2cYN— Josh Crosbie (@JoshCrosbie3) November 20, 2020
The advice from emergency responders is if you're "if in doubt, don’t go out" and to "never swim alone".
