A woman who was filmed being pushed into the Royal Canal in Dublin says she believes her attackers were as young as 12.
Gardaí are treating it as a racially motivated incident and say they're following a definite line of inquiry.
Witnesses, in particular anyone who may have mobile phone footage or a voice recording of the incident that happened between Lock 11 and 12, is being asked to come forward.
A video of the attack, that happened at around 7.25pm on Friday evening was widely shared on social media.
Shelley Xiong, who lives in Castleknock, says she ended up in the water after confronting the group of teenagers;
"After the last one, after they verbally abused me, I was just very angry and could not put up with that anymore. So I went after them and asked them to stop."
She says it's the first time she has been physically attacked but it's not the first time she has been racially abused.
