A status yellow ice warning is set to come into effect from six o'clock this evening.
Temperatures could reach as low as -4 degrees celsius.
Icy stretches are forecast nationwide, including Dublin.
Hazardous road conditions are said to be expected.
Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather says temperatures will plummet over the next day or two:
"A blast of very cold arctic air will move down across the country through Monday."
"Once some rain clears, it will turn very cold with temperatures dropping to as low as minus four degrees."
The warning will last until 10 am on Tuesday.
