Wine And Cigarettes Worth €200k Seized In Dublin

Revenue officers have seized alcohol and cigarettes worth over 200 thousand euro in Dublin.

Over 15,500 litres of various brands of wine were discovered during routine profiling yesterday. The wine was discovered following the search of a trailer that had arrived into Dublin Port from France.

The smuggled alcohol has an estimated retail value of almost €190,000, representing a loss to the Exchequer of over €101,000.

Separately, as a result of routine operations at Dublin Airport last week, Revenue officers seized over 16,000 cigarettes. They Marlboro and L&B branded cigarettes were discovered with the assistance of detector dog Wilson, in the checked baggage of a passenger who had arrived on a flight from Krakow, Poland.

The cigarettes have an estimated retail value of €11,400, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €9,000.

Meanwhile ast week, Dublin airport detector dog Wilson helped officers find more than 16,000 cigarettes, branded Marlboro and L&B.

They were found in the possession of a passenger who'd recently arrived on a flight from Krakow in Poland.

Revenue says the seizures are part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and smuggling.
