Will Smith has slapped Chris Rock live on stage at the Oscars, just minutes before being crowned best actor.
The actor later apologised after swearing at, and appearing to hit, the comedian at the awards ceremony in LA.
Rock, who was presenting, made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's short hair; "Jada, can’t wait for GI Jane 2".
The actress, who is married to Will Smith, has previously spoken about her experiences with hair loss, prompting her to shave her head.
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air actor swore at Rock following the altercation, shouting "keep my wife's name out of your mouth".
Will then went on to win the best actor Oscar for King Richard. In a tearful acceptance speech, he spoke about defending family, saying "love will make you do crazy things."
