The company that makes Dolmio has admitted some of its sauces are so high in salt, sugar or fat; they should only be eaten once a week. The advisory on Mars Foods' web site is part of a five year global health drive.
The plan includes labeling products to distinguish which are suitable for everyday consumption and which should be confined to 'occasional' use. Mars says 5% of its products fit into the latter category. They include Dolmio's lasagne sauces and kits.
The company says it'll be updating its 'occasional consumption' list over the coming months. Mars also makes Uncle Ben's and says it will be reformulating its oriental sauces to cut the salt, fat and sugar content.
