Walking and cycling takes 530,000 cars off Dublin's roads every day according to a new study.
That saves greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 1.69 million flights from Dublin to London every year.
The report by the National Transport Authority found 71 per cent of residents in the Dublin Metropolitan Area walk or wheel at least five times a week. That's up from 64 per cent in 2021.
The NTA has published the findings of the largest-ever survey of walking, wheeling, and cycling in Ireland.

25% of residents cycle at least once a week according to the survey of more than 1,100 residents across the region, which covers an area from Donabate in Fingal to Greystones in County Wicklow in the south, and as far west as Kilcock in County Kildare.
72% of residents support building cycle tracks physically separated from traffic and pedestrians even where that means less room for other traffic.
