Victims of crime will soon be given reasons when a decision is taken not to prosecute their offender.
A new EU directive will give victims the right to get reasons in offences such as rape, child sexual abuse and harassment.
At the annual national prosecutors conference in Dublin Castle this morning, it was confirmed that this will come into Irish Law by November 2015.
Currently the DPP's office only gives reasons for not prosecuting in cases involving fatalities.
