The US has announced plans to spend almost $700 million buying the old Jurys Hotel in Ballsbridge and moving its embassy to the site.
The former hotel will be demolished, making way for the new building.
The Biden administration has formally notified Congress it's to spend $171 million on the 4 acre site, that sits close to the existing embassy.
The new compound will include a residence for Marine guards, support facilities and parking.
The iconic, cylindrical shaped building first opened in 1964.
There's no official date for when the project will be completed but it's estimated there will be 189 employees at the new embassy in 2028.
