The pair flew in from Oslo in Norway on Friday and claim to be a father and son from Afghanistan.

Pal Singh, who is 67, and Mitesh Singh, who is 18 years old, were arrested by the Garda National Immigration Bureau at Dublin Airport's Terminal 1 arrivals hall on Friday at around 4pm.

They face the same allegations under Section 11 of the Immigration Act of travelling without valid passports or documentation establishing their identities- an offence that can carry a 12 month sentence.

The two men, who have no fixed addresses and say they share the same birthday, appeared before Judge David McHugh at Dublin District Court today where an interpreter was provided for them for legal proceedings.

GNIB detective John Henry said upon Pal Singh's arrest, he replied “I only need help”. Mitesh Singh made no reply to the charges.

The court also heard the men are not applying for bail, they have been granted legal aid, they will be remanded in custody and directed medical attention in prison.

They will be held in custody until they appear again in court next week.
