A man and a woman are due in court in connection with an attempted raid at a filling station in the city centre last night.
The botched robbery took place at Usher Quay at around 9pm.
Two raiders armed with knives and wearing balaclavas threatened staff and demanded cash at the petrol station.
They fled the scene empty handed and no one was injured in the incident.
A short time later officers in a patrol car spotted a man and woman in their 30s on Thomas Street.
Both suspects were arrested and knives recovered.
They were brought to Kevin Street Garda Station for questioning and are due in court in connection with the incident later this morning.
