Two cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the UK.

Public Health England says they're members of the same family, but hasn't revealed details of where they're from.

They're the first confirmed cases in Britain.

Last night the World Health Organisation declared it as a public health emergency of international concern.

Over 213 are known to have died from the virus with almost 10,000 contracting it around the world.

Here at home, the Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Health says it is NOT inevitable that the virus will arrive in Ireland.

Tony Holohan explains what might happen here;

"If a case is to occur we are confident that we'll be in a position and our health services will be in a position to contain that case, in other words to prevent that person who might be a suspect case or a confirmed case from passing that infection on."
