Donald Trump has threatened to deploy the military to quell unrest in cities across America, describing the problem as "domestic terror".

The US president addressed the nation from the White House, as police used stun grenades and tear gas to clear surrounding streets.

It was the sixth day of disturbances sparked by the death of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, in police custody in Minneapolis.

A medical examiner has classified his death as a homicide.

The US president says he's taking radical action;

"I am mobilising all available federal resources, civilian and military, to stop the rioting and looting, to end the destruction and arson and to protect the rights of law abiding American citizens."

In Dublin, more than a thousand protesters took to the streets yesterday in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.

More demonstrations are planned over the coming days.
