The second annual Trans Pride rally took place in the capital today.
Several hundred participants marched from the Garden of Remembrance to Merrion Square at noon.
Denise Breen, director of Transgender Equality Network Ireland, says while more work is needed around trans issues, Ireland is one of the more progressive countries in the world.
"To change your name is just a deed poll -- anyone can do it, you could walk into your local solicitor and fill out a deed poll form and fill out what your old name was and what your new name will be," she said. "From the moment you sign that form, that's your new name, legally,"
"Thankfully we have the Gender Recognition Act, [we're] one of the first countries to do that, and so Ireland from a legal perspective is quite progressive."
