And with 90 per cent of the adult population now fully vaccinated, the campaign has been one of the most successful in Europe.
Trinity College immunology professor Kingston Mills says high vaccine confidence in younger age groups has been a particular boost.
Experts say the next major step will be the rollout of booster jabs.
After this was approved for the over 80s and older nursing home residents.
The first boosters are expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
