Tickets to U2 at Croke Park have sold out in minutes this morning. The band will bring the Joshua Tree tour to the stadium on July 22nd, 30 years since the album was first released.
Some fans camped out all weekend to secure tickets, however fans who missing out will have to cough up hundreds of euro if they want to see the gig.
80 thousand tickets were sold out in about 6 minutes, but some of the same tickets have turned up on secondary sites including a Ticketmaster company called Seatwave which offers legitimate tickets for much higher prices.
For example a ticket for the Hogan Stand is available for 300 euro with a a 56 euro booking fee.
Deputy News Editor at Hotpress Stuart Clark admits it's legal but unfair "I think we have to say here, there is no history here of the industry regulating itself, and there's no chance of the companies sitting down".
"So what we're looking at here is legislation like in Queensland that came in recently; they have a 10% cap on re-sale", he explained.
Live Nation says that touting industry is worth 8 billion dollars, and until some restrictions are in place - some desperate fans will continue to fork out to get to a must see gig. The tour will kick off in Vancouver on May 12th before arriving in Europe on the 8th of July.
In Dublin U2 will be supported by Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. Noel says, “It will be both a pleasure and an honour to play my part in what still remains the greatest show on earth.”
