The three year old boy who died in a lift in Galway yesterday has been named locally as Solomon Soremekun.
It happened at around 3pm yesterday after he became trapped in a lift shaft in an office building in the three story Hynes Building on Augustine Street
The boy was with his Nigerian born mum and two other siblings at the time.
Two units of the Galway Fire Brigade, an ambulance and the gardaí were all called, but Solemon was pronounced dead at the scene, which has been preserved today pending further technical investigations.
A post mortem will be carried out at Galway University Hospital today on his body.
Two separate investigations have been launched by the gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority into how the boy could have gained access to the lift shaft.
