More than 7,000 objections have been lodged against plans to revamp Lucan Village.
The €2 million euro redesign involves reutilising an existing public park and creating a green with an amphitheater-style space and bandstand.
The main street will also be resurfaced creating more space for cyclists and pedestrians, while a number of car parking spaces will be removed. There will also be new bus stops, seating, bins and cycle parking facilities.
Those against the plan say it would destroy local businesses, create a "pedestrian wasteland" and increase anti-social behaviour.
But the council's chief executive will recommend councillors approve the plans during a vote today, according to the Irish Times.
Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Peter Kavanagh, thinks the scheme is good for the area;
"There's obviously an awful lot of people who have objections to this, we've received a big petition. On a personal level I think the scheme is still good for Lucan it's only a net loss of 10 parking spaces."
