Thousands of Dubliners will have no water until Sunday.
Repair crews are continuing to work on a break on a large water main off James' Street.
Dublin City Council says work is expected to continue until at least Sunday evening.
This is the latest in a setback for residents in the capital as Irish Water start installing meters across the city.
Green Party TD for Dublin's North Inner City, Ciaran Cuffe, says that residents expect a better service:
Work began on the repairs at 6.30am this morning and is likely to continue well into Sunday evening.
The areas most likely to be worst affected include:
North of the Liffey
Cabra, Glasnevin, Phibsboro, Drumcondra, parts of Doneycarney, Santry and parts of Beaumont
South of the Liffey
Heuston area south to Thomas St and east to Bridgefoot St.
If required, water tankers will be made available for customers.
