The drive to target crime gangs involved in burglaries across the country is being hailed a major success - and today it's the focus of a two day summit by Senior Gardai - as they discuss ways to turn up the heat even further. The conference at the Garda College in Templemore will discuss nationwide operations against organised gangs and maintaining the effectiveness of our policing force - despite continuing government cuts.
Keeping the pressure up - against gangs running drugs - and gangland gun crime will be among the most pressing issues discussed.... but a crackdown on travelling burglary gangs will also focus highly.
Today's Irish Times reveals figures that show a dedicated operation to reduce burglaries has paid dividends - with close to 7,000 arrests and 4,000 criminal charges brought since it's inception in the spring of last year.
The two day conference will also discuss new structures for community policing and ways to tackle road deaths - which have crept higher this year, following record lows in recent years.
