Ken Barrie, the voice of Postman Pat, has died at the age of 73 following a short battle with cancer.
A family friend confirmed the news to BBC.
Barrie, who provided the voice of Pat and other characters in the 1980s original children's series, also sang the theme tune for the show - which was later released as a single.
He also provided the soundtrack for Charlie Chalk.
