Dublin City Councillors have met to discuss the proposal.
They've decided to stick to a rule, which means a person must be dead 20 years before their name can be considered for commemoration.
Head of the Naming Committee Dermot Lacey says the measure is in place to avoid "the Jimmy Savile effect".
Dublin's Lord Mayor, Oisin Quinn, had called for the rule to be waived in this particular case.
