A developer's been given the green light to build a 'boutique' hotel in Ranelagh. Paddy McKillen Junior plans to construct a 41 bedroom hotel with a rooftop terrace and an art-house cinema in the basement.
Earlier this year a number of local residents objected to An Bord Pleanála. One person said the village doesn't need more bars or restaurants but is crying out for a car park. Another claimed a hotel would add to Ranelagh's traffic congestion.
According to The Herald, the planning authority sided with the developer despite its own inspector's report recommending that permission be refused.
Paddy McKillen's Press Up Entertainment group is behind The Dean Hotel and Everleigh Garden on Harcourt Street as well as the Workman's Club on Wellington Quay. Paddy McKillen Senior co-owns The Clarence Hotel with Bono and The Edge.
The hotel is expected to be open for business in two years time. 80 jobs will be created, on top of those announced for the construction phase.
