The redevelopment of St Teresa's Gardens is to go ahead.
Fifty new homes will be built at the south inner city site after Dublin City Council gave the project the green light at its meeting last night.
Work to develop one of Dublin's largest and most dilapidated flats complexes is due to start next year and be completed by the end of 2016 at a cost of around 10 million euro.
Most of the 16 blocks will be demolished but two will be retained and the flats reconfigured to give 57 homes.
Fifty new homes on the site will also be built and the first phase of a new urban park and play area will start.
