A temporary cycle-way, along part of Dublin's River Liffey, is expected to be in place by the end of the week.

Road resurfacing works have been completed for the track between Inns Quay and Ormond Quay in the city centre.

It's part of Covid-19 social distancing measures, that also include the temporary widening of footpaths by Dublin City Council.

Fine Gael councillor Ray McAdam has welcomed the news;

"I have been getting correspondence, emails, texts and stuff from cyclist over the years just how dangerous it is, how in effect cyclists in many aspects along the quays were taking their life into their own hands."

He went on to say; "I hope that the introduction of at least this temporary Liffey Cycle route will be a big support to cyclists."

Councillor McAdam says he will be meeting with other councillors to try and push for similar measures along more of the River Liffey in the city centre.
