A 17-year-old boy has been handed a life sentence for murdering a young man during a fight outside a block of flats in Dublin last April.

The teenager, who can’t be named because of his age, will have his sentence reviewed by the Central Criminal Court in January 2030.

"Broken And Alone" - Victim's Mother

20yo Glen Osborne, and the accused, who was 16 years old at the time, had a falling out in the days leading up to the killing.

Glen’s mother’s windows were smashed in over a drugs transaction, and he believed the boy had told those responsible where his home was.

Angry messages were exchanged, and on the day of the murder, the boy’s father text his son, labeling him a ‘rat’.

A fight broke out; during which, the boy pulled the knife from a bag and stabbed him once in the chest.

At the sentence hearing, Glen’s mother Rose said she feels “broken and alone” without her only child.

His fiance, Lauren, who was pregnant at the time, described how hard it is bringing up their son without him.

She said they just wanted to be happy together.

Bringing a knife to the fight was considered an aggravating factor by the judge today.

So too was the fact that he reached for it while knowing Glen was unarmed.

The boy was handed a life sentence, but the court will review it again in ten years.
