Tayto has announced that it is changing flavour names on some of its crisp packets into Irish.

More than 31 million bags sold here in Ireland are getting name-changes, in what the company is calling an "Irish upgrade" that "is now here to stay".

Tayto packets will be looking a little different from now on:

  • Cheese & Onion becomes Brioscáin Phrátaí Faoi Bhlas Cáise & Oinniúin
  • Salt & Vinegar becomes Brioscáin Phrátaí Faoi Bhlas Salainn & Finéagair
  • Smokey Bacon becomes Brioscáin Phrátaí Faoi Bhlas Bagúin Dheataithe
  • Prawn Cocktail becomes Brioscáin Phrátaí Faoi Bhlas Manglaim Cloicheán

Tayto says the idea follows the success of its St Patrick's Day pack that was launched in March 2016.

"It received such a positive response that now all Tayto impulse bags will have the dual language and it's here to stay", a spokesperson said.

The company says it hopes to add the cúpla focal to more of its crisp and snack bags in the future.
