Getting a taxi is going to cost passengers more from today.
Fares are increasing by 12 per cent after a review by the National Transport Authority.
Drivers will also be obliged to install cashless payment facilities and accept cash from passengers. It means from today cabs will have to accept card payments and they can't add surcharges for doing so.
But Tommy, a taxi driver working at Dublin airport, says he would rather fares stayed the same;
"It's costing me money. I had to pay €120 out to get my metre rectified and now I've to pay another €70 or €90 for it to be sealed. 12 per cent, no. I would prefer if they left the fares they were. People are paying enough anyway."
