The Taoiseach is concluding a 6 day official visit to the US for St. Patrick’s Day.
He's discussed a range of subjects, including immigration reform, and has higlighted Ireland’s economic progress.
Enda Kenny's US visit was not without controversy, due to the boycotts of St. Patrick’s Day parades in Boston and New York due to LGBT rights issues.
The mayors of Boston and New York refused to march in the St Patricks day parades in their respective cities.
A number of important parade sponsors including Guinness withdrew support in protest against discrimination of LGBT people, yet the Taoiseach marched on unwilling to get involved in matters outside his control.
Diplomatic strains did not end there however, as according to eye-witnesses, a highly animated row between one of the most senior members of the Taoiseach’s staff and the newly appointed Irish ambassador to the US broke out in public in the early hours of St. Patrick’s day.
Both individuals have refused to comment about the cause of the row but it is likely to cause some concern among government staff of this year’s US visit.
