The Taoiseach says any reopening of society will be cautious and conservative.
Micheál Martin says Covid 19 figures are reducing but there’s still some way to go before restrictions can be eased.
As it stands the current Level 5 restrictions are due to last until March the 5th.
Speaking on his way into Cabinet this morning, the Taoiseach seemed eager to play down people’s expectations saying there’s still some way to go yet in reducing the infection figures.
He says clarity will be brought on restrictions soon but warned any reopening will be cautious and conservative: "We'll bring greater clarity to that towards the middle of this month, but we are in mind that we will be conservative and cautious in terms of any re-opening.
"The objective is prolonged suppression of the virus to get the numbers down very low, and to keep them low".
The Taoiseach says construction and schools remain the main priority in reopening society.
Transport Minister Eamon Ryan is still hopeful the Leaving Cert can go ahead.
Latest figures show 1,104 people are in hospitals this morning with Covid which is down nine percent on yesterday and 22% from Tuesday.
But the message from Government is this number is still too high - and needs to come down much further before society can reopen significantly.
