Residents in Sandymount in south Dublin are threatening legal action over noise levels which they say pose a serious health risk.
They're calling for Strand Road to stay as one lane of traffic.
The route, which runs along the coastline, is the loudest road in the city according to the council's monitoring system, breaching safe guidelines for noise.
Residents say the route that leads to Dublin Port is essentially an unfinished section of the M50 and that the council should pause any plans to return the route to an unrestricted two-way traffic flow according to the Irish Times.
The road has been partially restricted to one lane while water main works are carried out, which will last until next year.
While the route has been at the centre of a legal dispute over plans to install a cycle track, that would make it one way.
Residents say they will have no option but to take legal action if the council attempts to return the route to undesirable and excessive noise levels.
