Thousands of homes are still without power following the storms sweeping the country - which claimed the life of a young woman in Westmeath yesterday. The 23 year old died when a tree was uprooted and fell on her car in Mullingar, yesterday afternoon.
Storm force winds continued to batter the country overnight - with gusts of up to 150 kilometres recorded in the North West.
ESB technicians have worked through the night to restore power to affected homes, with over 250 separate faults affecting the network, caused mainly by falling branches.
7-thousand homes are still without power - with West Donegal and South Galway worst affected. While pockets of Clare, Cork, Limerick, Mayo, Kildare and Wicklow are also still powerless.
ESB says it will redeploy resources to get everyone back on the grid.
Met Eireann says the winds will continue, although they have now downgraded their nationwide alert.
Meanwhile half an inch of snow has been reported on roads in the Midlands, with falls reported around Sligo town, North Tipperary, Offaly and Laois.
Spokesperson Bevin Cody has this advice for anyone still without electricity:Irish rail is still investigating a roof collapse at Kent Rail Station in Cork in high winds yesterday. However the station is fully reopened this morning.
