A council rubbish van was stolen and later crashed into railway barriers in Dublin yesterday evening.
This incident began yesterday afternoon when the city council vehicle was stolen from Parliament Street while a member of the waste management team was emptying a bin.
Shortly after 5.30pm the van failed to stop for Gardaí at a checkpoint on Ormond Quay. Officers then became aware it was stolen and its movements were monitored by a number of garda units.
The small rubbish truck eventually came to a stop after crashing into level crossing barriers in Sutton, causing significant traffic in the area and forcing DART services to be suspended for a time.
The driver was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
