A status orange wind warning has been issued for the entire country from 10pm tonight as Storm Darragh makes landfall.
Munster and Connacht will be subject to the same warning from 8pm.
A status yellow wind warning is already in effect for the entire country since 3pm Friday afternoon.
Met Éireann issued another red wind warning on Friday afternoon for Co Wicklow, valid between 1am and 6am tomorrow morning.
Meteorologist Matthew Martin says people in red counties need to shelter in place.
"Fortunately, the worst of the activity looks like it's going to come in over night."
He added: "Expect some damage, some power outages and very difficult travelling conditions."
