SSE Airtricity has announced a massive price hike, with electricity bills rising by over 35% and gas bills by 39%.
The changes will come into effect from October 1st.
SSE Airtricity says the rise is due to the international energy crisis caused by the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
Numerous energy companies have hike up their prices multiple times over the past 18 months.
The changes by SSE Airtricity will result in an additional €600 a year for electricity and €500 for gas for the average customer.
Bonkers dot-ie Head of Communications, Darragh Cassidy, breaks down the cost of the announcement:
"It's an absolutely massive price hike.
"I was expecting SSE to rise prices but I wasn't expecting it to be this high.
"The unit price of its electricity is going up by over 45% and its unit price of its gas is going up by 46%, so huge price increases.
"On top of this, the daily standing charge for both gas and electricity is going up 8% as well."
