Chris Cornell, who gained fame as the lead singer of Soundgarden and later Audioslave, has died aged 52.
The Seattle rock band Soundgarden had hits including Black Hole Sun, Rusty Cage, Fell On Black Days.
The frontman also wrote and sang the theme tune for the Bond movie Casino Royale.In a statement to the Associated Press, his representative, Brian Bumbery, said Cornell died on Wednesday night in Detroit.
He had been touring with Soundgarden since April.
The statement says his death was 'sudden and unexpected' and wife and family were shocked.
They've asked for privacy.
