New figures show that 66 drivers have been disqualified from driving more than once for accumulating over 12 penalty points.
A total of 191 drivers were banned for meeting the 12 point limit in 2013 - with the total since the points system was introduced now at over two thousand.
Reacting to the figures, the Transport Minister says courts can deliver longer driving bans if they feel they're necessary.
Leo Varadkar says penalty points alone aren't enough to deter dangerous drivers.
