Shane Ross has admitted he knew what he was doing when he photobombed Katie Taylor at Dublin Airport.
The outgoing Sports Minister was accused of trying to steal some of the Dublin boxer's limelight back in June.
Dozens of photographers and TV cameras were waiting to catch a glimpse of Katie Taylor after she was crowned the undisputed lightweight champion.
However, the cameras picked up more than just the boxing champ in most of their shots.
The Sports Minister, Shane Ross, was reluctant to leave her side, appearing over her shoulder at every chance.
Some of the footage went viral, with images of Shane Ross lurking in the background being made into memes.
Memes of him in the background of other significant events soon appeared; like the moon landing and the birth of Jesus.
Reflecting on his time in government after losing his seat in the election, Shane Ross said he knew exactly what he was doing.
"Of course I was aware the cameras were on me", he told Pat Kenny on Newstalk.
"Let there be no doubt, I knew the cameras were there and I didn't want the cameras... I wanted to be in the camera shots with Katie Taylor", he said.
However, he claims "it wasn't as bad as it was painted".
