Hundreds of new sensors on Dublin streets will alert local authorities to breaches in noise levels, pollution and floods alerts.
The technology will help shape new local laws on noise and environmental issues.
The network of sensors will work by placing up to 1200 high tech devices on lamp posts, drains, public buildings and other facilities.
The sensors will record environmental information and feed it back to computers operated by Dublin City Council.
If there's a problem an alert will go off highlighting where it is.
The council then sends someone out to assess the issue.
