There's calls to clamp down on the use of scrambler bikes in public parks in Finglas. The Chairperson of the Finglas South Combined Residence Association is calling for the laws to be changed. Hence, giving the Gardai more power.
Martin Hoey says the bikes are affecting everyday life for people in the area. He said: 'We see scramblers in our parks, we see them going up and down our main roads. We have incidents everyday where these lads show off and go up and down on one wheel on main roads. They're in front of cars, bicycles, buses.
'They can lead to accidents. And it can be very intimidating for people trying to go about their daily business.'
He continued: 'The bikes go up and down all day long in Tolka Valley Park. Children can't use the playground. If the Gardai come down and take the bikes, they can't chase them. They hope to catch them at the exit.
'But even then, when they bring them to the station, the parents of the children can come down and claim the bikes back for them. The bikes should be seized once used in an improper manner.'
Last week, TD John Lahart along with his party colleague John Curran, began the process of preparing legislation to bring to the Dáil. They want to give Gardai the powers they require to combat the scourge of scramblers and quads in residential areas.
