People living along Sandymount strand have described a 10-year delay to new flood defences as shocking and frustrating.
The Sandymount and Merrion Residents’ Association says construction was due to begin in 2019.
However the project is to undergo a redesign and is now not expected to be completed before 2032, despite being recommended twenty years ago.
Dublin city council is to go back to the drawing board on the plans for the Sandymount coastline, that will see work carried out from Merrion Gates to Seán Moore Park.
It follows consultation with the OPW. The new assessment will take increased wave heights and sea level rises in recent years into account.
The work is not expected to begin before 2030 and is unlikely to be in place before 2032.
Chair of Samra, David Turner, says they were told last year the work was ready to go ahead;
"Most people around here are concerned about it, they know there are flood defences in place, but this is a shocking revelation to be told this has now gone back a decade when it was expected to start."
