Many people across Ireland woke up to an unwelcome surprise this morning.
Thousands of cars were covered in what could only be described as red dirt.
The east of the country and the west of England were the worst affected areas.
The dusty debris covering cars was due to exceptionally strong winds over North Africa, which led to sand being displaced from the Sahara Desert and following a path up through parts of Europe.
This isn’t the first time it has happened, however it is very rare for the sand to actually survive long enough to make it to Ireland.
