The Dublin woman behind some of the biggest early noughties hits in pop has said she 'would love' to represent Ireland at Eurovision.

Samantha Mumba made the confession in reaction to an Irish Times opinion piece, in which Jennifer Gannon argues that "we need to take back control of our song selection" and "get passionate again".

She believes that "our next effort is sung by Samantha Muma a bone fide pop star whose surname almost sounds like ABBA which is obviously a sign that this is our destiny."

And Sam is keen!

Last night Ireland was knocked out of the Eurovision for another year. 20 year old Brendan Murray took to the stage in Ukraine performing 'Dying to Try' in the semi finals.

However he didn't get enough points to make it through to the finals.

While we're here. Some Friday lip syncing at your desk?
