A rickshaw driver who left a woman with life-changing injuries after raping her in a Dublin city lane-way has had his sentence reduced by 18 months.
Rafael Tiso, who used to live on Offaly Road in Cabra admitted attacking the woman in 2016 and was originally jailed for thirteen years.
The sentencing judge described what Rafael Tiso did on Jan 18th 2016 as “a violent and callous crime... on a vulnerable inebriated young woman”.
The then 23-year-old woman was being escorted out of a Dublin nightclub when the Brazilian rickshaw driver intervened and pretended she was a friend.
He told security he’d take care of her but instead he walked her down a nearby laneway where he subjected her to a brutal 40min attack.
Afterwards, he just casually walked back into the club.
She was found lying unconscious between two cars by two Good Samaritans who thought she was dead.
A court previously heard she’s now unable to give birth naturally and she says she feels like she’s in a nightmare that she can't wake up from.
Tiso was jailed for 13 years but successfully appealed the severity of that sentence.
The Court of Appeal felt the judge didn't give enough of a discount for his guilty plea and the fact he's in a prison so far from home.
