Residents in Ballybrack Protest Over Lock Out Threats

A protest is getting underway this morning outside an apartment complex in Ballybrack, Dublin.

10 apartments at Ridge Hall are the focus of a row between the management company and a landlord over management fees.

It's claimed a landlord hasn't paid them and as a result the management company says it will disable access to the building this morning.

It means some residents' fobs won't work. so they will either be stuck in their homes or locked out of them.

Mothers and their children are among those affected.

The People Before Profit party has called on the management company and landlord to resolve the problem.

The residents say they are excellent tenants and shouldn't have this threat looming over them.

Resident Sarah Loughlin said:

“This action being proposed has happened to us before, as a result a three-hour standoff occurred shortly after Christmas. We are excellent tenants and should not have this threat looming over us and our families. Many of us will have to take the day off work or we will not be able to return to our homes."

Richard Boyd Barrett TD People Before Profit said:

“It is utterly unacceptable that these families and households that have paid their rent and done nothing wrong face the imminent threat of being locked out of their homes. We have written to the management company calling on them to withdraw this unfair threat and to the landlord calling on them to urgently resolve the issue. We have also written to the Council urging them to intervene as much of the rent is being paid through the HAP scheme and they have an obligation to stand up for these tenants. We will stand with the tenants in morning and help them protect access to their homes.”
