Swimmers are being urged to exercise caution in the water this Easter.
The RNLI says cold water shock is a threat because water temperatures remain cold despite the bright weather.
They're also asking people to take heed of the Government's 5k rule - and other Covid-19 restrictions.
The RNLI's Owen Medland has this advice for open water safety.
- When kayaking or paddle-boarding always carry a VHF radio or mobile phone, to call for help
- Wear appropriate lifejackets or aids.
- Always be visible
- If you get into difficulty, do not thrash or struggle, lie back and float, extend your arms and legs.
Always Carry A Means To Call For Help
Owen says there's been a marked increase in activity as the brighter weather tempts people to spend more time at the coast or inland water.
"In particular walkers cut off by the tide, or open water swimmers, also incidents involving inflatable toys."
"We ask that, whatever you're doing by the coast or the inland water, you always carry a means of calling for assistance."
