A report has warned that anti-social behaviour in Inchicore could descend into the type of criminality that has plagued other parts of Dublin.

It was commissioned by the Department of Housing to explore the long term economic and social regeneration of the community and to support the development of a social and community plan for the Inchicore-Kilmainham area.

It also looked at housing and plans for a cost rental scheme at St Michael's Estate in Inchicore, with proposals to build 500 homes, with 30 percent social housing and the rest cost rental.

The report said it presented an opportunity for the project to be "an example of high-quality life-time adaptable housing, as well as a pilot for the cost rental model."

The report also highlighted concerns about social problems in the area and said a more comprehensive approach was needed.

It warned there was a danger the issues could result in the type of crime that has plagued other parts of Dublin.

A second report, seen by the Irish Times, found more than 50 children from 25 families were involved in anti-social behaviour in Inchicore.

The report came on the back of a spike in crime in the area in 2018. It included attacks on cyclists and pedestrians along the canal, racist incidents, as well as vandalism and shoplifting.

The document urged Tusla to commit more resources to the area.
